Over the last four months reasonable people have told me that starting a business right now “must be tough” and “is unfortunate due to the economic climate”. At the same time, similarly reasonable people have said to me that “this is the right time to start a company” and “you’re at an advantage with the economy the way it is”. This causes confusion. And for me, confusion causes anxiety.
The number of people I know that have been laid off – smart, talented, young people, a trend – is growing at an alarming rate. The company I used to work at, my first foray into the corporate lifestyle and my only new social circle post-college, is knocking people out left and right. I’m not 100% sure that unemployment is all that bad right now(it’s a case by case thing), but witnessing it all, well, it causes anxiety.
Rent: $900; Health Insurance: $300; Car Insurance $140; Taxes? I haven’t figured that part out yet. Anxiety.
NewTeeVee, can you make up your mind: Is internet video screwed or not? Oh, it’s totally screwed? Right. Anxiety.
With that said, all this recession stuff has given us Unemploymentality, a blog by a couple people I used to work with. I’m not technically unemployed, but it’s relieved quite a bit of my stress.
